The trick is to associate getting better with the overall pleasure, and not the immediate pain of making an effort to change.

:)))) How interesting!

I notice occasionally the same feelingl - as if I'm trying to invent the most painful scenario, while really there is no chance of it ever happening.

One way to tackle this is to start documenting negative facts. Don't come up with negative scenarios - instead, simply write down all the painful things associated with doing or not doing something. The sheer size of such a negative list will make sure the negative association is set properly, while separate tiny reasons for the negative result will help your brain realize you're not imagining things, but merely listing the facts.

Good luck!

yeah, you're right about the pleasure and pain principle. I read that book too. My only problem with the technique is that my brain is trying to override those associations by thinking that I'm just inventing a scenario (painful ones) that will probably not occur. This is why at times it isn't that effective. Probably i need to imagine things more clearly, since they say that the mind doesn't distinguish what is real from what is vividly imagined. This may help persuade my mind to accept such negative associations.
