Very good approach indeed! Another reason it works so well is that it allows you to fully focus on each small task, rather then slow down trying to consider as many dependencies a task has as possible.

That's why, using your example of writing a book, each session should be split into smaller tasks like writing 1000 words, then going through the draft to edit and rephrase sentences, then proof-read the second draft, etc.

If you just have it as one task like "get the 1000 words of final text", it will feel much harder to accomplish even though the goal is seemingly the same.

Yea I'd definitly say the biggest thing i've found that helps achieve my goals is to break it into mini steps that are repeatable (nearly every goal has something like this, for example writing a book you might say write 1000 words) then ingrain that mini step as a daily habit. Goals seemingly just eventuate with little to no effort required.

thanks for your views. I'm a young engineer leading a team of people and projects since few months and despite confidence in my means I really felt the need of some good suggestions.
I'm working in a big organization and to get results things must be planned really in advance.

Hi Al,

And thanks for the suggestion! It would help indeed.

It just so happens that I'm working on adding visual aids to my most popular articles these days, so I will make this particular post a priority!

Great post. Very informative.

However, I believe that with some visual aids, like wrapping up the points you mentioned in a flow cycle, it would help with information retention.

Thanks for a great post. I've also found that learning things little by little is key to gaining understanding of bigger subject matters.

It's a crippling thing for the mind to try and take in the bigger picture before it has the details that make up the pieces of the puzzle.

To learn bite by bite and to take baby steps when completing tasks or projects are two very simple but invaluable tips on the road to understanding and completion.
