Gleb, I like what you said about not sacrificing an activity without replacing it with a worthy goal; the trade-off has to be meaningful.

When I'm in a prioritizing rut (ok, when I'm parroting Lyman and simply not feeeeling like it), it often helps to start with once-and-done tasks. Small successes often work wonders to get my butt in gear.

Thanks, Lyman!

I know exactly what you mean about prioritization. I'm currently going through the top of the list kid of approach myself and it feels like a very nice change :)

Awesome post, Gleb! Consciousness, and action on what we learn from that consciousness, really is the key.

Like you said, It helps me to plan what I'm going to get done today on paper, and using checklists. That way, when the distractions come (and they do!), or if I get hit by the whole childish "But I don't FEEEEL like it", I can say to myself "Just start on the next thing on the list."

Sometimes I organize things by priority, but not always. I find that I can use my "organizing" as an excuse for procrastination, and fool myself into thinking that one thing is more important than another, when all I'm doing is avoiding something I don't want to do. Sometimes top down on the list works best.
